Canada's better off without me?
Kay, I try not to use my blog as a soapbox too often.. but this really bugs me...
What's the Globe and Mail doing asking a poll like this?
"Have you come to believe that Canada would be better off without Quebec?"
... It's like someone asking you how you feel about a member of your family... granted family members can get annoying every once in a while, but they're still family... right?
(And if this post sounds chocked full of insecurity...check out the poll results!)

That's one poll. EVERYDAY, for years, we have read about or listen to Quebecers (some)rejecting the ROC.
I would like to see what Canada would look like if our politicians weren't always sucking up to Quebec.
(Present PM included)
Do you have a list of other uncomfortable questions that may not be asked? Perhaps the BQ and PQ should be forcibly disbanded, since their answer to this very question is the foundation of their existence.
In what way is pretending that the opinions expressed in this survey dont exist a rational act? How can you further national unity when you refuse to acknowledge that there is any threat to national unity?
what a waste, must have been a slow news day. But then again being part of the CTV conglomerate sensationalism just to get readership isn't something new for this company.
Online polls are a total crock anyway. They only represent the views of the demographic that reads them: well-heeled citizens, or specific groups of young folks who "live online" and often tend to have a very technocratic view of life and society (meaning little "human" or social consciousness bent).
Online polls just drive viewers to the web site which increases ad revenues. It's too bad the G&M can't at least try to pretend it's holding itself to a higher standard than most online media.

Only in your insane little mind, troll.
Hmmm…. Sounds to me like we are in desperate need of a bit of Couples therapy 101:
First, I'm really sorry on behalf of Quebec that we've made the RoC feel like we don't love you. We do, we really do - It's just hard for us to communicate that some times.
And then we have politicians (and I hate generalizing like this - because in general I actually really respect and admire politicians and I think that they get a bad rap - it's a tough job and I think the vast majority of them go into it because they have a belief in "bettering the public good" - their definition of "bettering the public good" is where the debate is - but that being said) - I think that politicians tend to muck up, create tensions - highlight our miscommunications and misunderstandings to serve their political agendas and then it all gets blown out of proportion.
At the same time, I was always hoping that the RoC would be the understanding partner in the relationship and know that we don't really mean it... I find it really sad that some of the comments reflected here and in the poll results - show an increasing attitude towards – “well if you don't want us we don't want you either” - god, this reminds me of so many relationships that I have been in... when all that was really needed was a good heart to heart talk about how we were feeling (i.e. "I wish, honey, that you'd listen to me more when I talk about... that's really important to me" response: "really? I had no idea that was such a big deal to you... I will try to listen better in the future.. .interesting, because sweetie, I really wish that you would pay more attention to my interested in ….. cause that's really important to me too."
I think that we are in some desperate need for good quality couples therapy - and unfortunately, I think that most of our politicians aren't stepping up to their obligations and fulfilling that role - but rather exploiting those tension for their own political gain...
...as for the G&M - I just wish that they'd use their polls to create unity rather than sowing the seeds for discord.

I would caution that a couple of comments from a couple of Conservative supporters on some blogs and from an internet poll which gets voted on by those motivated enough to decide to vote on it shouldn't be seen as a reflection of what the rest of us in the ROC really thinks. Don't be too disheartened by these.
I mean, if I believed everything I read online from online polls, I'd be somehow believing that Canadians feel that the Conservatives will do the best job of protecting the enviromnment... but of course, we find out there was a concerted effort to "freep" the poll by our BT comrades.
So, dont get too discouraged by what you see online from comments and internet-based polls.
I would also point out to you, Wilson61, that I must have missed the torrent of stories on CBC and CTV and elsewhere for the past few years that everyday we hear about some Quebeckers wanting to be let out of Canada. Maybe in Meech Lake yester-year, but hardly the case now.
... I also just wanted to add, that it makes me sort of sad, that potentially contentious posts get comments/response... while the fab music clip of brazilian happiness - in the previous post - elicits no comments at all... hmmmm - yet maybe another reason for the globe's aggravating poll...
